Conversemos: a los estudiantes de Telemática

El 17 de agosto de 2011 llegó un mensaje escrito en inglés para responder a una entrada en esta página. Me sorprendió, pero aumentó mi desconcierto al ver llegar dos, tres, diez, veinte mensajes más firmados por nombres desconocidos. Recordé entonces que tres días atrás mi amigo, Arthur Edwards, profesor de inglés en la Universidad de Colima, me había enviado el plan: los alumnos de su materia en la Facultad de Telemática leerían cada semana uno de mis artículos y escribirían un comentario en inglés. Intenté responder a cada uno después de leerlos; en español lo hice, por supuesto. Mi esfuerzo inicial fue superado fácilmente por la cantidad de mensajes que cada mañana esperaban aprobación, así que me resigné a solo leer algunos de ellos, so pena de no dedicar varias horas a mi trabajo. Así ha sido hasta hoy.

Se cumplieron 18 meses de aquel inicio y su presencia jovial e inquieta me resulta una grata compañía: al final del semestre ya conozco los nombres de los muchachos, casi igual que si fueran mis alumnos; sus comentarios siempre son muy gentiles, y muchas veces estimulantes, sobre todo cuando los temas tratan problemas sociales y ellos expresan indignación, solidaridad, sensibilidad… las cualidades que uno espera encontrar en los jóvenes cuando analiza esos temas. Son, lo confieso también, un buen termómetro de la claridad de mi escritura, de la certeza del tema y del interés que les despiertan; un grato puente entre los intereses y preocupaciones de un adulto y las suyas.

Este semestre ya empecé a revisar sus comentarios; estoy seguro que leerán esta entrada muy pronto y quiero proponerles que invirtamos los papeles: que ellos escriban comentarios sobre los temas que les resultan de interés, les preocupan, les gustan o disgustan. A sus respuestas intentaré comentarios que propicien, idealmente, un diálogo que parte no solo de quien escribe, sino de quienes leen.

    Primer nota para mis alumnos:

    Querido Alumnos,

    Hoy en día nos vemos bombardeado con información visual de lo que considero “comercial” y de poca relevancia, que no favorece nuestro crecimineto ético y humano. La comercialización de los medios y el afán de ganar dinero limita las posibildades de muchos medios de informarnos y al mismo tiempo inquietarnos lo suficiente para querer crecer. Considero que una ciudadanía mal informada con poca formación ética o humana se presta a la tiranía y el abuso de su semejante.

    Nuestra formación, en mi opinión, TIENE que valer más que los pesos que pensamos ganar al ejercer una profesión. El ser una persona con una buena educación implica saber que más puedes hacer, puedes pensar, puedes organizar, puedes contribuir,..para que la sociedad sea más justa para todos, para que todos podamos disfrutar de una vida más de acuerdo con principios humanísticos.

    Ubuntu…busquen esta palabra y concepto. Pero no en términos computacionales, sino en su etimología Africana.

    Una última observación:

    Dicen que un imágen vale por mil palabras. Yo digo, el imágen te roba la oportunidad de expresarte en esas mil palabras. Nos hemos hechos flojos para leer y escribir, dos habilidades que nos permiten abrazar nuestra realidad y nuestras aspiraciones.
